What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy often referred to a “talk therapy," is one of the best methodologies for allowing patients to openly discuss certain issues or mental health disorders that they are experiencing. Psychotherapy is designed to help people understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and how they impact their mental health and wellbeing. When you are having trouble solving issues in your own life, turning to a qualified mental health professional can provide you with valuable insight.
Could Psychotherapy Help Me?
While many people turn to us for psychotherapy when they are dealing with mental health issues such as eating disorders, mood disorders, and addictions, know that people can benefit from therapy even if they aren’t dealing with mental illness. We can provide a support system for our patients, helping them find more effective coping strategies, helping them solve relationship problems, or even supporting them through their job search. Psychotherapy may also be ideal for you if you are dealing with,
- Relationship issues or conflicts with others
- Anxiety and stress
- A serious life change
- Unhealthy behaviors and habits (e.g. anger issues)
- Chronic health problems
- Sexual or physical abuse
- Low self-esteem
- Sexual issues
- Sleep problems
- Addiction
What should I Expect from Psychotherapy?
The first appointment with us is an intake evaluation, in which one of our counselors will sit down with you to understand what brings you to therapy. This process can take up to 90 minutes and allows us to map out an effective therapeutic plan based on the issues you are dealing with. From there, patients may benefit from weekly sessions that often last anywhere from 45-60 minutes.
Our therapists offer a variety of therapeutic methodologies including Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). These techniques can help you better understand your mental struggles and provide you with hands-on strategies to improve your mental health and wellbeing.
